- AbstractWe propose code verification examples based on the method of manufactured solutions (MMS) for Kirchhoff-Love and Reissner-Mindlin shell analysis. In order to ensure the credibility of numerical simulations reliable software has to be provided. Code verification is the process of ensuring that there are no coding mistakes in the implementation and that the algorithms work properly. The MMS is an elegant method to derive exact solutions to boundary value problems which can be used for rigorous order of accuracy tests within the code verification process. We apply the proposed tests to an in-house developed finite element research code implementing elements for Kirchhoff-Love and Reissner-Mindlin shell analysis.
